Configuration

Download and install the iPass dialer:
iPassConnect for Windows XP and Vista
iPassConnect for Intel-based Mac OS X up to 10.5

Connecting to NUS IPASS service

Step 1:
Confirm that phone jack is working had has a dial tone.

Step 2:
Connect your laptop or computer to a phone jack. Locate and double click the iPass Connect icon on your desktop.


Step 3:
Choose and highlight the appropriate access type. Select the Country, State, and City from the drop down menus and click find. Under the phonebook, a list will show and click on the red triangle to expand the list of the modem. If there is another red triangle, click on it to expand the list of the phone number.


The numbers listed in the phone book are in order of performance, best to worst. In most cases you should use the phone book entry at the top for your location. If you can place calls directly from your location press the Connect button and go to Step 4. If you need to dial an additional number to get an outside line press the Dial Properties button and refer to Step 3b, then press the Connect button.


Step 3b:
Enter the number required to access an outside line in the To access outside line dial box in the General section and press OK.


Step 4:
Enter your LAN User ID in the Username field and enter your LAN password in the Password field. You may also check the Save password box. Press the OK button.


After you pressed OK, the Connection Status message box will appear. You may press the Info>>button to see more details.


After you have connected and authenticated you may receive updates periodically.


Step 5 (Optional):
To access NUS Intranet services, you may optionally make use of the NUS WebVPN service.

Disconnecting from NUS IPASS service

Step 1:
Double click on the red iPass icon found in the System Tray in the lower right corner of your screen.


Press the Disconnect button to disconnect. Upon successful termination, you will be see the following:


Troubleshooting

Dial History
  • To review recent unsuccessful dial attempts and potential troubleshooting solutions click Help > Connection Log.

Difficulty connecting to the access number
  • Try an alternate number within the region you are traveling.
  • Make sure you dial the required prefixes.Many hotels require you to dial a number to get an outside line.
  • Do not manually alter the dial string on the main screen of iPassConnect, as this may disable the access point.
No dial tone or modem sound
  • Make sure there is a phone line that provides dial tone and the phone line is connected to the computer and the phone jack.
  • Check your Dial Properties.
Error message indicating incorrect password
  • Verify and re-enter the Login/Password (for possible typos made while entering Username and Password.
  • Make sure your Caps Lock key is set properly.
Password authentication is slow (e.g. more than 60 seconds)
  • Do not click Cancel. In some areas, it may take up to 120 seconds to connect.
  • Under Options > Settings, make sure that the “Redial if Not Connected in 60 Seconds” option is set to at least 120 seconds.

Usage Charges

iPass charges by region. Cost of using iPass is directly reflected in the dialer.

Wireless@SG: Please note that standard iPass charges applies for users who use iPass credentials to log in to Wireless@SG.

Billing

iPass usage charges will be deducted from the individual staff's salary, typically in the month after using the service.
